How to Upload Your First Bill
Getting Started with rekupr
Welcome to rekupr! Uploading your first medical bill is quick and easy. This guide walks you through the upload process and what to expect.
The Upload Area
After signing in, you'll see the upload page with two side-by-side dropzones:
- Left dropzone — Drop or select your medical bill here
- Right dropzone — Drop or select your EOB (Explanation of Benefits) here
rekupr automatically detects your upload mode based on which files you provide. Upload just a bill, just an EOB, or both together — no mode selection needed.
Supported File Formats
rekupr accepts several file formats:
- PDF files — The most common format for medical bills
- Images (JPG, PNG) — Perfect for bills you've photographed
- HEIC files — Direct uploads from iPhone photos
Drag and drop your file into the appropriate dropzone, or click to browse your files.
Add Context About Your Situation
Below the upload area, you'll find an optional "Additional Context" text box. Describe your situation — for example, what procedure you had, any concerns about specific charges, or details your insurer mentioned. This helps rekupr focus on what matters most to you. See "Providing Context for Your Analysis" for more tips.
What Happens After Upload
Once you upload, rekupr's AI extracts and analyzes your documents:
- Advanced extraction — Text, line items, codes, and amounts are captured
- Code analysis — Medical billing codes are identified and verified
- Issue detection — Potential billing errors and concerns are flagged
- Summary generation — A plain-English explanation is created
Processing typically takes 30–60 seconds depending on the complexity of your bill.
Review Your Results
After processing, your results open with a decision card at the top summarizing the recommended action, plus a financial summary. Below that, your analysis is organized into tabs:
- In Simple Terms - Plain-English explanation of your bill
- Financials - Detailed line-by-line breakdown, plus bill vs. EOB comparison
- What We Found - Issues and discrepancies worth your attention
- Appeals - Build and track appeal letters for charges worth disputing
The Insurance and History tabs appear when relevant.
Tips for Best Results
- Upload both your bill AND your EOB for the most complete analysis
- Ensure documents are clear and readable — avoid blurry or cropped photos (see "Image Quality Tips")
- Include all pages if your bill spans multiple pages
- Add context to get more targeted findings
