What does the analysis check on my bill?
Our analysis checks your bill in five areas:
- Math: totals, quantities, and amounts that do not add up
- Duplicates: the same service charged twice, on one bill or across your bills
- Coding: upcoding, unbundling, modifiers, codes that cannot be billed, and charges inside a surgery's global period
- Insurance processing: your bill against your EOB, and whether your deductible, copay, coinsurance, network status, and out-of-pocket maximum were applied correctly, plus denial codes, preventive care, and surprise billing
- Prices: charges compared with fair market benchmarks, including drug prices and facility fees
The analysis also checks whether you may qualify for financial assistance or a prompt-pay discount.
How sure is each finding?
Every finding the analysis checks carries one of three labels:
- Documented: shown by your documents and official reference data, such as a math error or a mismatch with your EOB
- Likely: a strong pattern that still needs your records or more context to confirm
- Worth asking about: a question worth raising with your provider or insurer, not a claim that something is wrong
Why do my EOB and insurance plan make the checks deeper?
Many checks compare what your provider billed with what your insurer actually processed. Without your EOB, the analysis cannot see what your insurer allowed or paid. Without your plan details, it cannot check your deductible, copay, or out-of-pocket maximum.
Does a clean result mean my bill is correct?
Not always. The analysis checks what is on the documents you upload, so a clean result does not guarantee every charge is right. An itemized bill and your EOB give it the most to check.
