Providing Context for Your Analysis

Make Your Analysis More Personal

When you upload a bill to reKUPR, you have the option to provide Additional Context — background information that helps the AI focus on what matters most to you. This is completely optional, but it can significantly improve the relevance of your results.

Where to Add Context

During the upload process, you'll see an "Additional Context" textarea below the file upload area. This is where you can type any background information about your visit, your concerns, or your situation.

What Kind of Context Helps

The more relevant detail you provide, the better. Here are examples of useful context:

  • Coverage expectations - "I was told this procedure would be fully covered by my plan"
  • Visit type - "This was an annual preventive wellness visit, not a sick visit"
  • Prior communication - "My provider's office confirmed the cost would be $200 before the appointment"
  • Insurance details - "I have secondary insurance through my spouse's employer"
  • Billing disputes - "I already called and they said the charge was correct, but it seems too high"
  • Special circumstances - "This was an emergency room visit and I had no choice of provider"

How Context Creates Patient Concern Findings

When you provide context, reKUPR's analysis generates special "Patient Concern" findings. These are distinct from the standard billing analysis and focus specifically on the issues you raised.

For example, if you write "This was supposed to be a preventive visit," reKUPR will:

  • Check whether the billing codes match preventive care
  • Flag any codes that suggest diagnostic rather than preventive classification
  • Highlight the potential impact on your out-of-pocket cost
  • Suggest specific actions related to reclassification

The Violet Section in Results

Patient Concern findings appear in a distinctive violet section in your results, making them easy to identify. They are kept separate from standard findings so you can quickly see which insights are directly related to what you told us.

Context in Appeal Letters

If you use reKUPR's Appeal Case Companion, your context is used as patient testimony in the generated letter. This adds a personal, factual narrative to your appeal — which is one of the most effective elements of a successful dispute.

For instance, context like "I confirmed coverage before my visit" becomes supporting evidence in your appeal that demonstrates due diligence on your part.

Tips for Effective Context

  • Be specific - Include dates, names, amounts, or reference numbers when possible
  • State what you expected - "I expected X but was charged Y" is very useful
  • Mention prior conversations - Reference any calls or messages with providers or insurers
  • Keep it factual - Stick to what happened and what you were told

Optional but Powerful

You can absolutely skip the context field and still get a thorough analysis. But when you take a moment to share your perspective, reKUPR can deliver insights that are tailored to your exact situation — and build a stronger case if you need to appeal.
